Summer Scholars is Off to a Strong Start
July 1, 2014
B.E.S.T. Summer Scholars is a five week enrichment program hosted at Roland Park Country School that facilitates the successful transition for B.E.S.T. newly enrolled rising 5th – 9th graders from their current schools to their new independent schools in the fall. On Monday, B.E.S.T. students and their parents attended the opening session of Summer Scholars where they met the faculty for the program and learned more about the upcoming five weeks. Our students will have a full daily schedule consisting of Math, Reading, Social Studies, Writing, Science, Technology, Study Skills and “Transitions”, as well as attend a one-day camp at the Hippodrome and spend a day at Outward Bound building their leadership skills. Each day, students will also participate in Athletics, coached by Ronald Carney of the Next One Up Foundation. Ronald, a college lacrosse player, will work on developing lacrosse skills in our students throughout the course of the five week program. As a special surprise, Monica Tucker of STX presented the students with their very own lacrosse sticks at our opening session. We are grateful for the gift and support from STX.
A very special thank you to SunTrust Foundation and the Thomas Wilson Sanitarium for Children of Baltimore City for their generous leadership funding of Summer Scholars.
