Description: B.E.S.T. applicants for grades 5-9 participate in writing, test-taking strategies and mathematic workshops to prepare for the Independent School Entrance Exam. Workshops are taught by independent school faculty.

Description: Meet Admission officers from each B.E.S.T. Member school. This event is for all accepted B.E.S.T. Applicants and their families.

The Financial Literacy Workshop will help families understand the obligations and timeline of participation in financing an independent school education.

The Color Purple

Description: 9th – 11th grade students and one parent are invited to spend the day in Washington D.C. for a tour of the Kennedy Center and a live performance of “The Color Purple.”

“Maximizing the College Counseling Experience”
Date: Sunday, September 16, 2018
Time: 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Location: Calvert School
Description: A facilitated conversation led by Paula Dofat, Director of College Counseling at the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women. 9-11th grade students and their parents will learn about ways to maximize resources related to the college search process and how to get the most out of the partnership with the college counseling staff at their member school.

SAT Prep
Date: Sundays, October 7, 2018 – Sunday, December 2, 2018
Time: 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: Capital Educators at Gilman School
Description: Preparation for the SAT and ACT provided for free through special funding to all B.E.S.T. Juniors.

Gilman Black Alumni Leadership Institute (GBALI)

Description: Leadership program for upper school students emphasizing educational and career choices and the importance of interpersonal relationships and personal accountability. Applications are required for selection to this program and will be made available in mid-summer 2018.

Description: The Women’s Leadership Network at Legg Mason invites a select group of B.E.S.T. upper school girls to a special one-day program. Past topics have included: finance, career paths, interview techniques, social media (do’s and don’ts), and environmental conservation.

B.E.S.T. Family Holiday Party / Celebration of the Class of 2019
