Summer Scholars 2015 Kick-Off
June 29, 2015
B.E.S.T. welcomes our newly enrolled rising Middle and Upper School Students to Summer Scholars!
On Monday, 29 middle and upper school students and their parents attended the opening session for B.E.S.T.’s annual Summer Scholars program. The families met the faculty with whom their students will be spending the next five weeks. After students each received a wonderful gift of a lacrosse stick from Monica Tucker from STX, they headed out for advisor group meetings. Parents had an opportunity to hear from Elisha James, Director of Summer Scholars about the expectations of their students and the schedule for the summer program.
Summer Scholars includes a full schedule consisting of Math, Reading, Social Studies, Writing, Science, Technology, Athletics, Study Skills and “Transitions.” Additionally, the students will participate in two field trips, and will each create a self-portrait during their week of art, a new addition to this year’s curriculum. They will take one day field trips to Camp Hippodrome and Outward Bound to work on leadership skills. Athletics will consist of learning the fundamentals of lacrosse, basketball, and soccer, and will be taught by Ronald Carney of the Next One Up Foundation.
B.E.S.T. is grateful to Monica Tucker of STX for donating lacrosse sticks and protective goggles to each student; to Ciara Johnson, B.E.S.T. Alumna ’14 from Roland Park Country School for serving as an intern again this year, and to the faculty of Summer Scholars who will prepare our students for the next phase of their educational journey.
