Kare & Kelsey Coley
Kare is a thoughtful and passionate student leader at McDonogh School. She regularly looks for opportunities to maximize her learning outside of the classroom through various programs including a Journalism, Law, and United Nations summer program at the School of the New York Times. Kare received a full scholarship to study abroad in Patagonia, Chile with Alzar, an outdoor education and leadership-based school. She was also selected as an Elijah Cummings Youth Fellow, a program that is dedicated to bringing the Black and Jewish community of Baltimore together. As a Youth Fellow, she participated in a podcast featuring Senator Shelly Hettleman and had the opportunity to travel to Israel. She is looking forward to applying her international experience and global perspective at McDonogh as a participant in a global ambassador initiative.
Kelsey is an accomplished athlete who only recently started running track when she started Upper School. A pivotal teammate in her 4×1 relay, they placed 4th overall at the Penn Relays. She also placed 1st within her league in her individual event, the 110-meter hurdles, qualifying for New Balance Nationals!
In the classroom, Kelsey enjoys Robotics and as a member of the LEGO League, she and her teammates earned second place at the state championship. Kelsey also looks for ways to extend her learning beyond the classroom and was selected as a STEMcx Intern – a paid summer internship experience where she learned coding through a partnership with BlueVoyant, a computer security service company based in Maryland.
Kare and Kelsey’s parent writes: The girls work very hard every day. I’m forever grateful for the amazing opportunity B.E.S.T. gave us and that I can share their achievements with you!
