Summer Scholars Begins

June 25, 2018

On Monday, June 25th, newly enrolled B.E.S.T. middle and upper school students and their parents attended the opening ceremony for our annual 5-week Summer Scholars program. Families were welcomed by Elisha James, Program Director and Dean of the Middle School at Roland Park Country School, and given a comprehensive overview of what to expect throughout the program. Families were also welcomed by Board President, Karlo Young and Executive Director Jessica Suriano who shared their excitement as the students embark on this important next chapter in their educational careers.

Over the course of the five-week program, students will take classes in Math, Science, Writing, Reading and Social Studies. Scholars will also enjoy a two-week art course as well as an Explorations Class that will delve into self-identity work and transitioning to a new school environment. Several field trips are also embedded into the program with scholars traveling locally to the Banneker-Douglass Museum in Annapolis, Camp Hippodrome in Baltimore and a day of team building at Outward Bound. An athletic program is also incorporated into the schedule throughout the day. Thanks to the wonderful partnership with STX, each scholar was given the gift of a lacrosse stick and goggles.

Thank you to our Summer Scholars Faculty, Staff, Interns and guest speakers for their commitment to this program and most importantly, to our scholars as they begin their educational journey at their new independent school in the Fall.
