B.E.S.T. College Admission FAQ Workshop and Campus Tour
October 20, 2024
B.E.S.T. Upper School students and their families joined us at Johns Hopkins University for a College Admissions FAQ Workshop and campus tour. Calvin Wise, Deputy Dean of Admission at Johns Hopkins and B.E.S.T. Board Member, led an engaging session focused on the holistic approach of selective schools during the admission process.
The workshop addressed a number of things for students to consider, including researching options, keeping an open mind, and how families can support their students during the process. The majority of the session gave a comprehensive look at what goes into a holistic admission approach at a selective school.
Elements discussed included a student’s academic character; their impact and initiative; and the importance of match, both for the student and the school. Calvin emphasized the importance of how students tell their story to demonstrate not just their accomplishments during high school, but what their future potential will be when they join their college community. He also highlighted the importance of their relationships with teachers, their personal and supplemental essays, and keeping their foot on the accelerator throughout their high school years.
The session concluded with a tour of Johns Hopkins University, a first for many of our students and families. Thank you to Calvin Wise and his team for a great session and visit.
