Maryland College Tours
March 21, 2016
On Monday, March 21st, 27 B.E.S.T. upper school students and their parents participated in a day of Maryland College Tours. We began our day at Johns Hopkins University where we had an information session hosted by Calvin Wise, Senior Associate Director of Admission and a current Johns Hopkins junior, followed by a student-led campus tour and lunch in the Freshman Dining Center. We spent the afternoon on a tour at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Held on the first day of spring break for most of our students, the day was designed to allow students to see both a small private college and a large public university. Thank you to Theo Rodgers, B.E.S.T. Trustee Emeritus for funding this informative day for B.E.S.T. families. We look forward to making this an annual event, touring different colleges each year so that B.E.S.T. students are able see the wide variety of college options available right here in our own state of Maryland. Thank you to Monica Graham, Director of College Counseling, and Kalea Selmon, School Counselor from Maryvale Preparatory School for joining our families for these visits.
While students and parents were touring the University of Maryland, Khalil Uqdah, Director of Programs and Alumni Relations met with three B.E.S.T. Alums who are currently attending UMD. Khalil enjoyed seeing Breechaye ’12 from St. Paul’s School for Girls and Teyarna ’12 and Jordan ’15 from St. Timothy’s School and hearing about their college experiences so far.
